Tune In! metrostyle on Designing Spaces!

Tomorrow is a very exciting day for all of us here at metrostyle! We will be featured on a television segment called Designing Spaces! It is a fun segment showing some of our upcoming styles and also giving some background info on our company. The first appearance is on Friday May 1st at 7:30 am on WE and the second is on Saturday May 2nd at 7:00 am on TLC.

You can see for yourself in the schedule below the rest of the times so you know just when to tune in on your local channel. This is something I was involved in from its very early stages and to see it finalized, after a great deal of group effort, is pretty awesome. I helped out gathering all the samples, fitting them, merchandising them (as seen in the picture), and of course sending them all to the shoot! You should definitely watch our segment and let us know what you thought of it! Set your DVRs, TIVO or whatever you have at your house because you don’t want to miss this! (But if you do, don’t worry, we will post it up here for you to view)

What's the Best or Worst Style Advice Your Mother Has Given You?

With Mother's Day this month the metrostyle e-newsletter paid homage to our Moms by asking metrostyle associates "What is the best fashion advice your mother ever gave you?".  Among the tidbits of advice my mother gave me were these traditional words of wisdom ..."Wear nice underwear in case you're in an accident" and the slightly less traditional "Better to be overdressed than underdressed"
We have all been the recipient of fashion advice (or opinions) from our Mom's whether they were solicited or not.
So we want to know, what is the best or worst fashion advice you ever got from your mom?
Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Later Dude...

Winter is finally over in Massachusetts.
I think...I hope...I'm pretty sure...I'm crossing my fingers

As we move from the darker months of winter to the bright months of Spring & Summer, I am always amazed by the transforming world around me, the trees, the animals...Spring is the time of new beginnings; A time for change, for growth, a time to look back at winter and say
"Later Dude! Yippee Spring!"

I do enjoy the winter. I'm not a complainer. I went snowboarding for the first time, visited with family I hadn't seen in a long time and started working on some projects I had long since set aside to collect dust.
I began to put things into motion.

As I write this, the sun is shining, the sky is a bright blue with one cute fluffy cloud. Spring is HERE! I feel invigorated. I am ready to take on the world. There isn't anything I can't do. I am ready to take that step forward...start a new journey. Brave and strong!

Who's with me!?! haha

Spring Things

I don't know about you but everywhere I look this spring I see yellow!

Out shopping yellow tops keep catching my eye, they really capture the bright and sunny spirit of spring!

In my garden yellow tulips are the first flowers in bloom this year.

Outside the golden yellow sun is warm and inviting, reminding me to get outside and play!

What colors are on your palette this spring?

My celebrity style icon is...

I love, love Audrey Hepburn.

She might be a little too skinny but that is a discussion for another day.
Her style is classic with a twist.

I am not just saying this b/c everyone loves her style but she knows what looks good on her.

Style is not about a brand or labels

That to me is a STYLE ICON.

You can never go wrong with Audrey!

Here are some other ladies I like. Let me know who is your favourite?

It's in the bag!

Yesterday my husband needed some cash. I told him I had some and all he had to do was run upstairs and grab some out of my wallet. After a few minutes passed I heard all sorts of noise coming from our bedroom. There were a few small “thuds” and the rustling of papers. When I walked in the room, my husband was on the floor looking distraught. Surrounding him was a pile of papers, a calculator, lip glosses, a change purse, a mint (unwrapped), an apple, a straw, a makeup bag, a fork, oxy wipes, bobby pins, a comb, many receipts, an empty Tylenol bottle, a travel size deodorant and a single sock to name only a few things.

“Beth, all I need is a dollar; I can’t even find your wallet in this mess..you do realize this is a handbag, not a suitcase right??”.

My secret is out!! I hoard things in my purse!!!! I am not a slob anywhere else; in fact I am the extreme opposite. I clean my house daily, I can’t stand clutter, and I love neat and tidy things. But my handbag…well this is a disaster! I love to throw anything in my bag. In the morning I put my lunch in it to carry it out the door..the mail? Rather than carry it I throw it in there..if my dog wasn’t 50lbs I would put him in there too. I like to think that I am not a slob, but in fact I am using my bag as an assistant!!!

What do you keep in your bag? Is it neat and tidy or a mess like mine!? Please tell me I am not the only person with this problem!! The worst part? I can’t stop! Even after admitting it and writing this, this morning my lunch went right in my bag, and as I was taking out my banana for breakfast, low and behold, last nights unopened mail came tumbling out!

Gladiator Sandals

The gladiator sandal has become a must have this summer. Unfortunately this type of sandal must be worn with the right outfit to get the right look. Believe me you don’t want to become a fashion victim. So, below are some helpful hints on what to wear with gladiator sandals.
  • First, you must make sure that the style that you are buying is flattering to your body shape. Especially if you have a short frame with chunky legs. You should go with metallic to make you legs look slimmer. Neutrals such as browns and blacks have the effect of making your legs look thicker.
  • A pedicure is a must!
  • More feminine styles can work with flowy summer dresses, slim-fit jeans, or summer shorts.
  • Chunky more masculine styles look great with jeans, mini dresses and shorts.

Here at metrostyle we take pride in the beauty and poise of our models as well as the professionalism present at our photoshoots. I thought it'd be fun to share a few of the goofy and fun moments captured at some of our recent shoots. Let us know in the comments which one of the three you like best.

Metrostyle Leggings- a haute commodity!

As many of you know, our leggings continue to be one of our biggest sellers for the entire brand! It has always been a mystery as to who is buying our leggings year after year and what type of top she wearing with our leggings. Not only do they come in a wide range of color multiples but also different styles; such as a bootcut, a skinny, and a jean-like at a very sharp price point of $24.99- $29.99. They have one thing in common- an elastic waist. They can be dressed up or down with a pair of heels or flats and can be worn with almost any type of top. One major benefit to our leggings is that they run in missy, petite, and tall! We usually run the top featured with the leggings in missy only. For all the petite and tall customers out there, would you rather buy a petite/tall top with your petite/tall leggings?

Stay tuned for new updated washes in our leggings coming to you this Fall!

On the Catwalk or Treadmill?

Going to the gym is an everyday occurrence for me, well almost everyday. I try to go a lot, but I seem to find plenty of excuses as to why I just can’t make it that day…But when I do go, I plan ahead and bring something cute to wear to the gym. Come on! There are hot guys there OK? As a single girl in my early twenties, I always want to look my best. The day I had my free personal training session with one of the very attractive trainers I put a little too much thought into what I was going to wear! Anyway…metrostyle has a great line of active wear that I incorporate into my gym attire. Take a look for yourself…maybe even treat yourself to something bright and summery to wear to your next fitness class! Getting in shape is all the rage these days…so you might as well look good while you’re doing it.
With all the bright colors we offer, you will definitely stand out while you're walking on the catwalk...um I mean treadmill.

Facebook 101

I'm sure many of you have been on Facebook for years, but since I am a late adopter of new technologies (I still don't know what Twitter is...) I just recently joined the many who make their presence known on Facebook everyday. The initial experience was exciting, I picked out a picture of me & my 4 month old for my profile, shared a couple of details about myself, and was excited to see that I instantly had about 30 friends. I thought 30 friends was a big deal, who knew that I had so many people who were willing to talk to me! Then I had a reality check, most of my friends had upwards of 130 friends...guess it will take a while for me to be that popular!

What really fascinates me is the amount of information available on Facebook. I had no idea that all my friends and family put so much time and effort into updating the world on their "status": walking the dog, going out tonight, and sharing funny quips about everyday life. Even my sister-in-law, who is apparently addicted to Facebook, posts a few times a day. I was amused to see that last week when she was babysitting my son she posted "watching my nephew...it's a battle and he's winning!" and her friends were replying with advice. And there is a whole world of things that I am still learning about, tagging photos, sending gifts…

What are your experiences with Facebook? Are you on all day or once in a while and how does all this information change your relationships?

Return to Me

We love it when you love what you buy from metrostyle, but we know that sometimes it isn't the right fit or style for you and you have to return it. It's just part of the business. Ever wonder if anyone cares if you return something? Well we do. I especially do.

I have been very busy lately compiling information for our Returns Team to review. We have gathered comments from the web, from return slips that customers have completed and even comments they have written on the return slips. We've even created a database to track these comments to see if multiple customers have issues with the same item. We have already pulled some items from stock to exam and try on our fit model tomorrow and compare them to the comments that have been submitted to us. It is a very big project and we are excited to be presenting some of our findings next week. Of course this is just a small portion of the larger project, but I wanted to share it with you as it is very important to me and the entire metrostyle team.

We want to make sure that we are providing you with garments, shoes and accessories at the highest perceived value at realistic prices. So, if you do have to return something, make sure that you fill in the reason and feel free to write a comment...I'll be reading them!

Back to School?! Back in Style.

Bodysuits! So happy to see them back! I wore them in high school (long time ago) and loved them. They were the absolute best with low cut hip huggers and short skirts. They made me feel like I was always "put together" no matter what I did. If I bent over to pick something up or reached for the top shelf in the cabinet I didn't have to spend time tucking my shirt back in or running to the bathroom to pull it down. If I still had a waist I would own at least a dozen in different fabrics and colors!

The maxi dresses bring me "back to school" too. Some of our maxi's look retro in style, but in great up to date comfortable fabrics. I love the colors! I think I may need one to get me through the summer.

I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT

I know it’s a recession but there are somethings a woman cannot live without.
Especially when you are new mother and getting 2 hours asleep a night

I cannot live without my eye-cream
Can I get a Amen!

You name an eye-cream I’ve bought whether it’s $50 or $300
Clinque, Chanel, Loreal etc!
Philosophy is my favourite

I refuse to let credit problems in the market led to bags, dark circles and crows feet around my eyes!
Haven’t you heard the 20’s are the teen years!
And I plan to celebrate my sweet sixteen for the next ten years.

"What, this old thing?"

I have a friend who hides the fact that she's been shopping from her husband. Whenever he asks "Is that new?" she tells him that she's had it forever. I thought she was crazy! I'd show my husband everything I bought, and I'd DARE him to tell me I don't need it!

But last week, the weather FINALLY started to show signs of spring. So I treated myself to a pedicure and a cute new pair of sandals. When I got home, I showed them off to my husband and he said, "New shoes? I thought we were saving up for a vacation?"

After a long, long discussion about the sandals...my husband finally came around and agreed it was a justified expense. But it got me thinking...maybe my friend has the right idea...maybe next time I just won't say anything at all.

My question...how honest are you about your shopping?

Fashion Question: What boot will make me look taller?

Got a fashion question? Email us at: metrostyleblog@gmail.com and one of our fashion experts will respond to you!

I'm short-5 foot. and I'm pear-shaped to boot. What boot is appropriate for my size and shape? Something that will make me look taller and longer-legged-but not any more pear-shaped?
Thank you, Miranda

Hi Miranda,

The good thing about boots is they will only accentuate your legs and will not add any extra curves to your shape.

Try a bootie with a higher heel...the heel height will give you the slight added height you crave while the bootie will elongate your legs...try this will a skirt or a dress.

If you want to be a little more classic, then wear whichever boot height you love, but wear them with black pants. Black pants and a high heel will give you height and keep you comfortable in your sexy curves!

Be bold, have fun, love your look!
